Changes in government for the city of Sumner have been approved.
The city council Tuesday moved to name former police chief Travis Trainer as the newly appointed city administrator.
Trainer resigned after 20 years with the police department, the last 10 as chief to take the new position.
His responsibilities include maintenence of the day-to-day functions of the city along with other various duties.
Trainer will work under current mayor Betty Brian and the two will collaborate on decisions affecting the city in the future.
Doyal Hofmann was appointed as the new police chief after spending 10 years on the force.
Both were sworn in before family and friends.
The council also approved rental rates for functions at the new City Hall and a tenative 6 month water agreement with the South Lawrence Water Corporation through the end of June.
