On Friday, September 6th, at approximately 2:20 in the morning, Marshall County Dispatch received a call about a single vehicle accident on U.S. 31 north of 9A Road.
Officer Wozniak responded to the scene and found that a silver 2014 Hyundai Elantra had been traveling southbound on U.S. 31 and left the roadway on the west side of U.S. 31 in the southbound lanes. The vehicle struck a streetlight and State Highway sign before hitting an embankment. The car sustained front end damage and airbag deployment.
The driver, 22-year-old Keegan J. Silveus, was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Field sobriety testing was completed, and a blood draw was done, showing his alcohol level to be almost two times the legal limit.
Silveus was taken to the Marshall County Jail and booked in for operating with a BAC of .15 or more and OWI endangerment. He was held on a $1,500 cash bond.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
