Justice David Overstreet and the Illinois Supreme Court have made an appointment to the Edwards County Circuit Judge vacancy.
Attorney Daniel Shinkle was approved to fill the position left vacant by the death of Michael Valentine in early November of 2024.
Shinkle has 30 years of experience practicing law since 2008 at his own firm.
He was public defender in both White and Edwards Counties from 2013 until 2022 and continues as Edwards County public defender.
He is also currently the Albion City Attorney and from 1992 until 2008 served as the Edwards County States Attorney.
The appointment is effective starting Monday February 10th and will end December 7th of 2026 following the November 2026 general election.
The Second Judicial Circuit includes Lawrence County.
