A traffic stop in the parking lot of the Quick Mart Gas Station across from Centennial Park ended with the female slipping out of handcuffs and attempting to hide methamphetamine.
Officer Fisher with the Plymouth Police Department stopped a vehicle Friday afternoon at about 3:45 because the registered owner showed being suspended. Shayla Hatfield, 35, of Plymouth, was taken into custody for driving while suspended with a prior charge. While she was in the backseat of the patrol vehicle, she slipped her hand out of the cuffs and retrieved methamphetamine from her bra to hide it. She was caught by the officer, and when he got Hatfield out of the vehicle, she resisted. She was placed back into cuffs and in the patrol vehicle.
Plymouth K9 Castor arrived on the scene and did a free air sniff of the vehicle, and 2 grams of methamphetamine were located.
Shayla Hatfield was transported to the Marshall County Jail and booked in for possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, resisting arrest, and driving while suspended prior.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
