Eastbound traffic on U.S. 30 was snarled Wednesday morning while emergency responders handled a two-vehicle accident where the semi struck the Hacienda Restaurant
The Marshall County 911 Dispatch Center received a call of a multiple-vehicle crash on U.S. 30 at Pioneer Drive at about 6:30 this morning.
Officers from the Plymouth Police Department made the scene and located a 2019 Chrysler van that had been sitting in the eastbound driving lane of U.S. 30 at a red light. The van was struck in the rear by a 2022 Freightliner semi-hauling an Amazon trailer that had disregarded the red traffic light.
The impact with the van launched it, causing it to roll over down the embankment. It came to rest in the ditch next to Hacienda.
The semi lost control, drove down the embankment, and struck the building causing damage to the back side of Hacienda along with an adjoining building space.
Both drivers were taken to the Plymouth St. Joseph Regional Hospital to be checked out but had no visible injuries.
Plymouth Police were assisted by the Indiana State Police and officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
Lyons Towing and Riechert Knepp were contacted to clear the scene.
Because of the crash, eastbound traffic on U.S. 30 was diverted for 90 minutes.
Plymouth Police Chief John Weir was the investigating officer.
