Salvation Army to host "Stuff the Bus" event at Shelbyville Walmart

Back-to-school season should be an exciting time, but for many families, the rising cost of supplies adds extra stress.

That’s why The Salvation Army is gearing up to host a “Stuff the Bus” event at Walmart at 2500 Progress Parkway in Shelbyville — making it easy for shoppers to give local students a strong start to the school year.

On Friday, Walmart shoppers in Shelbyville can grab a few extra school supplies and drop them in Salvation Army collection bins right at the front of the store. Every donation helps a child in Shelby County.

“As the cost of living continues to rise, many parents are finding it harder than ever to afford the basic supplies their children need for school,” said Major Lynn S. Lopez. “Thanks to the generosity of Walmart shoppers, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to start the school year ready to learn."

All school supplies collected during the campaign will stay in the local community, directly benefiting approximately 200 students in Shelby County.

How to support the "Stuff the Bus" campaign:

  • Visit the Walmart Supercenter at 2500 Progress Parkway on July 24, 2026
  • Purchase school supplies from the requested list or your choice
  • Drop donations in the Salvation Army collection bins located at the front of the store
