A sticky subject earlier this year has come to a resolution when it comes to a sitting Rockville Town Board member and unpaid stormwater bills.
According to Rockville Clerk-Treasurer Brandy Asher, board member Dr. Steve Waltz, who also serves on the stormwater board, is receiving a bill for stormwater.
"He is being charged for storm now," Asher confirmed to The Parke County Post.
This comes after several contentious board meetings, where it was pointed out by Asher and others that Waltz had not been paying, including one earlier this year that got testy.
"I'll just go ahead and say it Steve. You haven't paid a stormwater fee since 2009. There. I'll be the person to say it because everyone else is thinking it, there I'll say it. You have not paid a stormwater fee since 2009 and it is not an ordinance that makes you subject to it. You have sat on a stormwater board and you just said how important it is for the revenues, but you never contributed to it," Asher told Waltz in January.
As for why he never paid previously, Waltz said it was because he had never been billed.
"It's a matter of bill us. There has never been a directive at any time to not follow the ordinance," Waltz said, adding that the new bill "won't register" in his household. "I'm sure there's some folks concerned, but $68 a month on top of a utility bill, probably won't register in my house. I have got a lot going on taking care of people. Do I feel like we were skirting it? No."
