The Red Hill Unit #10 School District will have a familiar name joining the administration for the upcoming school year.
The Board of Education moved to hire Dena Brashear as the part-time Assistant Principal at Red Hill Junior/Senior High School in Bridgeport. Brashear had previously worked for the district as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent. She will fill the vacancy as the search continues for a full-time candidate for the position.
The Board also voted to accept a new Student Personal Technology Procedure policy in which students will be required to surrender their cellphones and other communication devices before class begins. They will be stored in holders that will not be locked for the class period and then returned to students once class ends. The passage comes after several weeks of debate about the implementation of such a policy and its enforcement by teachers.
The actions came during a special session on Thursday, August 6th. The votes were followed by a district building walkthrough by board members to inspect the facilities prior to the beginning of school.
