The Pulaski County Sheriff's Department in Winamac is reminding drivers to keep an extra eye out for farm equipment as tractors work near roadways during harvest season throughout the area.
The department recently posted on their Facebook page that motorists should be aware that many tractors and other large farming equipment will be using the same roads as they travel between fields and may need additional room to maneuver.
Officials encouraged drivers to give farmers space on the road ways. They also warned motorists to remain aware when traveling near the tractors and so equipment operators are aware of their presence when attempting to pass, as operators may need more time to move their equipment unexpectedly to avoid obstacles on the side of the road.
PCSD is also reminding farmers to use hazard lights while traveling on public roadways and to be mindful of traffic build up behind them. When possible, officials say the operators should find a suitable location to allow other vehicles to pass in an appropriate time.
The department hopes raising awareness will avoid potential hazards during harvest season for both drivers and farmers.
