The City of Shelbyville’s Board of Public Works and Safety will no longer conduct an appeal hearing Monday for Shelbyville police officer Kyra Peoples.
The newly-formed Police Merit Board will handle jurisdiction of the appeal. The board will meet for the first time on July 9 at 3 p.m. at City Hall.
Peoples’ appeal does not yet have an assigned date with the board. Details of the appeal have yet to be released.
Shelbyville Police Chief Bill Dwenger appeared before the Board of Works on June 10 to request a change in Peoples’ rank from detective to patrol officer. Dwenger also asked Peoples be placed on paid administrative leave.
The appeal, which will be open to the public, was scheduled from July 7 at 8:30 a.m. but the Board of Works will no longer preside over the appeal.
