Plymouth Police respond to child safety incident and Kroger brawl over the weekend

Plymouth Police officers responded to two separate disturbance calls over the weekend, resulting in two arrests — one involving a man who was irate and holding a child, the other a Kroger parking lot altercation that ended in a domestic battery charge.

On Saturday evening, June 20th, Plymouth Police officers were dispatched to the area of Elm and Poplar Streets after a caller reported a male screaming and a child crying in the vicinity.

Officer Baker located the source of the disturbance and made contact with Ronald Games, 54, of the 1000 block of Elm Street. According to the officer's report, Games was irate with officers and was making threats while holding a child. Officers worked to de-escalate the situation and were eventually able to get Games to hand the child off to another adult.

Once the child was safe, Games was taken into custody and booked into the Marshall County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting law enforcement.

The following morning, Sunday, June 21st, at approximately 10:50 AM, Plymouth Police were dispatched to the Kroger store at 2001 North Michigan Street for reports of a public disturbance.

Patrolman Thornton arrived to find two individuals in an altercation on the ground. After speaking with both parties and witnesses, officers determined that Julia Annalise Beers, 25, of Sunnylane Drive in Plymouth, had battered the other party. Beers was taken into custody, transported to the Marshall County Jail, and charged with disorderly conduct and domestic battery. She is being held on a $500 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
