Plymouth Police arrest 3 out-of-county drivers over weekend for license violations

Plymouth Police officers made three separate traffic stops over the weekend, resulting in the arrests of three individuals for various license violations.

On Friday morning, August 7th, at approximately 10:00 a.m., Patrolman Thornton observed a vehicle near the Marshall County Courthouse whose registered owner had a suspended license. After the registered owner entered the vehicle and drove off, Thornton initiated a traffic stop at Shalley Drive and Michigan Street. The driver, Blair Sammual Batey, 27, of Mishawaka, was placed in custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail. He was booked on charges of operating a vehicle without ever obtaining a license and driving while suspended with a prior.

On Saturday evening, August 8th, at approximately 7:10 p.m., Officer Fisher conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 700 block of North First Street after the registered owner's license showed as suspended. The vehicle was pulled over on U.S. 30 east of Plymouth Goshen Trail. The driver, Jorge Escutia Sanchez, 41, of Laporte, advised officers that he was aware he had never had a license. Central Dispatch confirmed that Escutia Sanchez had never obtained a license. He was arrested for operator never licensed and transported to the Marshall County Jail.

On Sunday morning, August 9th, at approximately 2:05 a.m., Officer Ayala stopped a vehicle at U.S. 30 and Pioneer Drive for a moving violation. During the traffic stop, the driver, Bryan Romero-Rubi, 22, of Warsaw, was found to have never obtained a driver's license. He was transported to the Marshall County Jail and booked for operating a motor vehicle without ever obtaining a license.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
