Plymouth Board of Public Works & Safety approves requests

Several requests were considered during this week’s Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meeting. 

Local attorney Burke Richeson, representing Collins Equity Group, requested that the city consider a 25 MPH speed limit on the city streets within the Centennial Crossing residential development. The streets in question are located in the front part of the development, where the single-family homes are situated. 

Richeson said Collins Equity Group is willing to purchase and install the signs for the sake of safety in the development.

Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt informed the board that speed limit signs are typically not posted in residential areas. There was uncertainty about the unposted speed limit in such areas, with speeds ranging from 25 to 30 or 35 mph. After some discussion, the Board of Public Works and Safety approved the request to post a 25 MPH speed limit on a city street in the Centennial Crossings development. 

The second request was to place a 30-yard dumpster on the Liberty Street side at 520 E. Garro Street.  Steve and Lynn Gorski recently purchased the home, and there is a lot of debris inside the house that needs to be removed, as well as the overgrown landscaping. 

Gorski said the dumpster will be located 75 feet from the intersection of Garro and Liberty Street and will only be on the street for a maximum of 7 days.

The Plymouth Board of Zoning Appeals approved the Gorski’s request for the dumpster placement. 

The final request came from Laura Mann, the Promotion of the City Coordinator.  She requested that North Michigan Street be closed on Saturday, November 29th, for the annual Lighted Christmas Parade, which precedes the city’s tree lighting event in River Park Square.  

Mann said she has already secured the INDOT permit to close the street since it is also State Road 17.  The closure will be from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Vehicles parked on the street between Adams and LaPorte Street, once the street is closed, will have to remain in place until the street is reopened following the holiday parade.

The Board of Public Works & Safety unanimously approved this annual request.
