The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved two requests late last month, including last-minute payment for entertainment at this weekend's Daddy Daughter Dance and a street closure for a charity 5K run.
Abby Collins, Park Department Recreation Director, requested pre-payment of $200 for the DJ entertainer at this weekend's Daddy Daughter Dance. The check would be presented to the entertainer on the night of the February 7th event.
Clerk-Treasurer Lynn Gorski presented the request but noted it should have been submitted earlier, creating a procedural issue. "The problem with this is that I will have to do an additional check run because this wasn't approved before this (January 26th) meeting," Gorski explained. Entertainers expect payment on the day services are provided, and the next city meeting isn't until February 9th—after the dance.
The board approved the payment request to ensure the entertainment could be secured for the popular annual event.
The board also approved a street closure request from SpiTrex, formerly known as CTE or Culver Tool, for a 5K run-walk on Saturday, February 14, at 10 a.m.
Walter Glaub Drive will be closed for the event, which will benefit the Marshall County and Fulton County Humane Societies.
Robert Lyon and Sharon Dome presented the request and noted that the company successfully conducted a similar run-walk event on December 12th.
Both approved requests support community events—one providing family entertainment and the other raising funds for local animal shelters. The Board of Public Works and Safety unanimously approved both items.
