North Putnam's Kramer commits to Butler, ready for season

Sometimes, it truly is all about timing.

Such was the case for North Putnam senior quarterback Christian Kramer, who recently announced his commitment to the Butler Bulldogs. 

The decision allows him to focus solely on his senior campaign with the Cougars, but also will allow him to get a jump on Division I football when the time comes. 

"To me, it was important to commit before the season, but it also felt right to decide now. I plan on enrolling early, so I'll be a Bulldog right after Christmas break," Kramer said. 

As for what set Butler apart, Kramer said the coaching staff, as well as the relationships he established with them. 

A season ago, Kramer helped the Cougars get off to a 5-0 start en route to a 7-3 campaign that ended with a first round sectional loss to new Monon Athletic Conference foe Western Boone, 56-27.

The strong start last year showed the veteran signal caller that North Putnam had "potential."

"We had a few guys who it was their first year coming back to football, and they played well. That being said, I think our potential this year is unmatched. Losing three games in the back half of the season definitely still frustrates me, but also gives not only me, but the rest of the guys motivation to not be beaten this season," Kramer said. 

Kramer established himself as one of the premiere quarterbacks in the Hoosier State, regardless of classification a season ago. Last year, Kramer threw for 1,932 yards and 14 touchdowns and added another 1,700 yards and 25 touchdowns on the ground. 

Kramer was hampered at points during the offseason with a broken hand and wrist, but has since recovered, working in the weight room and developing himself to prepare for a championship caliber season against conference foes Western Boone, Greencastle, Southmont, Frankfort, Crawfordsville, North Montgomery and Cascade. 

He admits that when he worked his way back after the injuries, he was focused on getting back movement and gaining back strength. 

"But I feel like my accuracy has gotten better and will continue to get better as my career moves forward. I also feel super explosive, my speed feels great and I am looking forward to this next season and showcasing those things," he said. 

As for goals, Kramer has lofty goals his senior season. 

"My individual goals are All-State, Mr. Football and having a 4,000 total yard season. My team goals are to win our new conference, go undefeated in the regular season and bring home some trophies. I believe our team is in great shape to do those things," Kramer said.
