Justice David Overstreet and the Illinois Supreme Court have announced the appointment of Matthew Vaughn of Fairfield as the new resident Second Circuit judge in Wayne County.
Vaughn was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Michael Molt in November of 2024.
The appointment is effective on Thursday, February 20th and will end on December 7th, 2026 following the November 2026 general election.
Vaughn is currently chief public defender in Jefferson County, Ill. He has also served as public defender in Wayne County.
He has been a practicing attorney in Wayne County for close to 20 years.
The Second Judicial Circuit also includes Lawrence County.
