102nd District State Representative Adam Niemerg is reporting that hundreds of residents throughout the district have signed his petition to oppose changing the Illinois state flag.
Neimerg issued a statement saying that the current flag has been in use since 1915 with only one change made in 1969 to add the word "Illinois" and there is no need for change.
The Illinois Flag Commission has released the designs of 10 potential replacements from a statewide contest. He is encouraging people in Lawrence and other district counties to vote online in January to keep the current flag design.
The results of the public voting will be collected by the Commission and presented in early April to the Illinois General Assembly in Springfield.
They will then vote on whether to change the design or keep the current one.
