Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan Update Review and Public Meeting Announcement

The Marshall County Hazard Mitigation Steering Committee will host a public information and strategy planning session on Tuesday, February 28, from 5:30 pm until 6:30 pm in Room 203 of the Marshall County Building, located at 112 West Jefferson Street in Plymouth.

Over the last several months, a planning committee consisting of community members has worked with Agility Recovery to review and update the Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan for Marshall County.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requires each unit of government in the United States to develop a Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan.  The plan must be reviewed and updated every five years to address mitigation strategies for threats and hazards the community has assessed that they are likely to be impacted by. The Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan serves as a framework for developing hazard mitigation projects that will reduce the negative impacts of future disasters on the communities. Examples of projects that have been completed by some communities include building storm shelters, adding warning sirens, relocating, or removing homes that have suffered repetitive flood damage, and fire protection enhancements.

Marshall County continues to prioritize planning equity, recognizing that disparities in health outcomes, financial capabilities, and living conditions exist within the county.  As part of a whole community approach, we actively encourage any historically underserved or impacted communities to participate in the planning and decision-making processes.
