Marshall County woman arrested on drunk driving charges after calling 911 on herself

A 43-year-old woman faces drunk driving charges after she called 911 to report she was too intoxicated to leave a residence — and then struck another vehicle in the driveway while attempting to drive away.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, Central Dispatch received a call at 1:08 a.m. on Monday, September 7, from Rabecca R. Rudd, who stated she was attempting to leave a residence in the 12,000 block of Michigan Road. Rudd told dispatchers she was "drunk" and had struck another vehicle in the driveway, and that her keys were now being withheld from her.

Upon arrival, Deputy Wozniak spoke with Rudd as well as witnesses, who verified that she had attempted to leave and struck another vehicle. Investigation revealed that while backing up, Rudd caused minor damage to her own vehicle and another vehicle.

Rudd was given a standardized field sobriety test and later provided a portable breath test sample. She refused a chemical test and was transported to Plymouth Hospital, where a search warrant was applied for and granted. A blood draw revealed Rudd's blood alcohol content was nearly two times the legal limit.

She was then transported to the Marshall County Jail.

Rudd, 43, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle with a BAC of .15 or More and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated — Endangerment.

She was held on a $1,500 bond.

Charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. The defendants are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
