The Marshall County office of the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) is inviting community members to learn about becoming foster parents at an upcoming informational event.
The Foster Parent Education Night will take place on Thursday, February 12th, at 5:30 p.m. in the Laramore Room of the Plymouth Public Library. The 90-minute presentation is designed for anyone who has ever considered opening their home and heart to help a child in need.
Foster care provides a safe, nurturing, stable, and temporary environment for children who can no longer remain in their own homes due to the risk of abuse or neglect. This free presentation will give attendees the information needed to make an educated decision about whether foster parenting is right for them, along with additional resources and learning opportunities.
Becoming an Indiana foster parent requires licensure through DCS, a process that involves several key steps. Prospective foster parents must undergo a background check and home study, and complete 10 to 20-plus hours of training.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old, demonstrate financial stability, and provide a safe home with adequate space for a child. Both single individuals and couples—whether married or cohabitating for at least one year—are eligible to apply.
Geminus Regional Care Group will be providing snacks during the presentation.
