A man suffered fatal injuries in a fire in Knox Monday.
Just after 9:30 a.m., the Knox-Center Township Fire Department was dispatched to a garage fire located in the 600 block of South Main Street. By the time firefighters arrived the two-story detached residential garage was fully involved.
Firefighters also found a male victim outside of the garage who was severely burned. The victim received immediate treatment from firefighters and then EMS. He was flown to the University of Chicago Medical Center but later died of his injuries.
It took over an hour before the fire was brought fully under control.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted to investigate the origin and cause of the fire.

The Knox-Center Township Fire Department was assisted by the Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Territory, North Judson-Wayne Township, Washington Township, Bass Lake-California Township, and Koontz Lake-Oregon Township fire departments, as well as Starke County EMS, Knox Police Department, Starke County Sheriff’s Office, Starke County Emergency Management, Knox Water Department, and the American Red Cross.
