Operation Round Up awards local non-profits with grants to support the work they do in the community. The Marshall County REMC Operation Round Up® board recently awarded $3,820 to two organizations.
Plymouth’s Blessings in a Backpack program received funding to assist with the cost of the weekend backpack program. The program mobilizes communities, individuals and resources to provide weekend meals for elementary school children in food-insecure households.
Serenity House, Inc. received funding to assist with the initial cost of new residents who may not be able to afford entry independently. Serenity House provides a safe, clean and structured environment for men and women alike to become free from the addiction of drugs and/or alcohol and become a productive member of society.
The Operation Round Up program allows Marshall County REMC members to reach out to worthy causes in the community and work together to help others. For less than $1.00 per month, members can round up their Marshall County REMC electric bill to support the communities and residents of Marshall County.
If 5,000 members were to participate in the Operation Round Up program, $30,000 that would go directly back to our community. On average, the program distributes about $5,000 quarterly to the organizations that apply with the intent to support the residents of Marshall County in many ways.
Thank you to those members who round up their electric bill to the next highest dollar each month and to the Marshall County Community Foundation for making these donations possible.
The next round of grants will be awarded in January. Charitable organizations within the Marshall County REMC service territory are eligible to apply. The organization does not have to be a member of Marshall County REMC. Applications are available at www.marshallremc.com.
