Legislation to provide FFA, 4-H students with excused school absences heads to governor

Legislation authored by State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle) to provide students participating in FFA and 4-H events with excused absences from school recently passed the Indiana Senate and now goes to the governor for consideration as a new law.

"4-H and FFA equip students with essential skills that prepare them for success beyond the classroom," Baird said. "This legislation ensures that students can fully engage in these programs while maintaining good academic standing."

Baird said his bill would ensure that Hoosier students can participate in 4-H and FFA events, up to six times per school year, without being penalized with unexcused absences. Students would have to be in good academic standing for these absences to be excused.
