The Lawrence County Board has given itself time to study the controversial issue of data centers and how they affect the communities they are constructed in.
They approved an ordinance establishing a two-year moratorium on the building of any data center over 10,000 square feet in the county. It allows the board to research the subject in order to make informed decisions in the future. So far, there have not been any inquiries about data centers in the county.
Upon recommendation of its solar committee, the board moved for conditional approval of the Littlers Creek Solar Energy, LLC permit for a project to be located south of Bridgeport. There will be no groundbreaking until the county receives a site plan and decommissioning plan for the location.
The board approved the 3-year renewal of the prison wastewater contracts with Lawrence and Connie Quick with 3% annual raises to be paid through funding from the Illinois Department of Corrections.
