A Kewanna man was arrested on domestic battery charges recently after he was accused of battering a child.
According to court documents on May 15, a report was made to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office about a possible domestic disturbance at a Kewanna home. The caller had explained a neighbor had heard loud screaming and things being broken inside the residence.
When deputies arrived at the scene they were met at the front door by a male who identified himself as Nicholas Eastwood. When confronted about small cuts the officers observed on Eastwood's hands he explained that he had been yelling and hit items inside the home because he was stressed out about bills and other life problems. Eastwood admitted a child had been in the home while he did this, but claimed there had been no physical fight between the two, only yelling.
During the discussion officers observed the residence appeared to be in disarray, with multiple broken items being on the floor near the front door.
Once officers were able to speak with the child they observed the child had redness and bruising on the right side of their forehead and under their eye.
Although initially hesitant to speak on the incident, the child finally was able to tell officers the events started a few hours after they had returned home from school. The child stated Eastwood had at first been sleeping when they arrived home, but awoke several hours later and began yelling and breaking things. The situation escalated when Eastwood allegedly began blaming the child for his anger. Eastwood then allegedly broke down the child's bedroom door and continued berating them before he eventually head butted the victim and punched them in the face with a closed fist.
Relatives were called to take the child from the scene. When taking the child, relatives disclosed to officers that Eastwood had been involved with DCS several times previously.
When officers questioned Eastwood about him breaking down the child's door he denied doing so, stating he broke his own bedroom door and not hers. He also denied allegations of hitting the child and accused them of doing it to themselves.
Eastwood was arrested and taken to the Fulton County Detention Center on charges of Domestic Battery with Bodily Injury on a person under 14, a Level 5 Felony.
