The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is warning Lawrence County and other area motorists to be on the lookout for pavement failures on roads this summer.
The extremely high temperatures and increased humidity can cause blowouts to occur. Blowouts happen when the prolonged temperatures cause the road surface to expand and buckle up, resulting in uneven driving surfaces. Hitting these areas of damaged road at high speed could cause vehicle damage or even worse, an accident.
If any pavement failures are spotted, travelers are asked to contact the IDOT at (800)-452-4368 or by reaching out to local and area law enforcement agencies via 911.
