Saturday’s windy weather had a negative impact on a structure fire at 1824 Hope Boulevard on the city’s north side.
Emergency responders were sent a fully engulfed attached garage fire that was spreading to the residence just before 4 p.m.
Assistant Fire Chief Chuy Garcia told WTCA family members were home when the fire started and were able to get out without any injuries. The family lost seven cats in the blaze.
The chief said firefighters had to battle the blaze that was fed by Saturday’s strong winds. The LaPaz Fire Territory assisted with manpower and equipment. The fire was under control in a short time, but the entire home received smoke and water damage.
Firefighters were on the scene for just under two hours and no injuries were reported.
Assistant Chief Garcia said they will be investigating the fire to try and determine a cause for Saturday’s fire.
