The National Weather Service (NWS) says that extreme heat will move into southeastern Illinois and southwestern Indiana this weekend into early next week. It is the first extended heatwave of the summer season.
A Heat Advisory has been issued from 12 p.m. CT Saturday through Tuesday. Hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create heat index values of around 105 degrees during the period. These temperatures can lead to heat illnesses.
If outdoors for an extended period of time, people should drink plenty of fluids, especially water. Stay out of the direct sunlight for extended periods of time. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Limit strenuous activities to the early morning or late evening. Check on elderly relatives and neighbors and young children and be vigilant for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
