The Fulton County Community Foundation granted $2,000 through the Grass Creek Memorial Fund to Columbia Elementary School for their Sensory Success Project.
This project helps provide sensory-based learning tools and resources that support all students. Examples include visual aids and tactile items that can be catered to each child individually. Students benefit from sensory activities and learning materials designed to improve focus, communication, emotional regulation, and classroom participation.
Educators utilized sensory tools and individualized strategies to help students feel more confident and engaged in their learning environments.
Chrissy Flynn, who made this project come to life, reported, “This has supported students’ self-regulation, improved focus, and contributed to a more positive and responsive learning environment overall.”
The Grass Creek Memorial Fund was founded by Brad and Kathy Good.
“Brad’s mom, Ann Good, was a special ed teacher for many years. After she passed away, we knew she would want to give back to those students with special needs. In 2008, we started the Grass Creek Memorial Scholarship in her memory,” explained Kathy Good.
