The Marshall County Recycle Depot is inviting Marshall County residents to a fall celebration at their facility on September 21st from 12 until 4 p.m. The afternoon will include fun seasonal activities for the whole family as well as environmental education.
Visitors will be invited to take a tour of the Depot facility and see a backyard composting demonstration. “Autumn is a great time to start composting your fall leaves and food waste at home,” said Director Marianne Peters. “We’ll have several different bins on hand to demonstrate composting on a small and a large scale.”
Kids will be able to have their faces painted or paint a pumpkin to take home, and there will be a farm animal petting zoo. There will also be a raffle for a 65-gallon compost bin and a fun hand-shaped recycled plastic chair that would be perfect in a classroom or a child’s room.
“We want to remind our residents that we are here to serve them, and that recycling is a project families can do together!” said Cherie Ramirez, the Depot’s full-time environmental educator.
The Recycle Depot is Marshall County’s headquarters for recycling, household hazardous waste disposal, and environmental education. Items accepted for disposal include batteries, automotive supplies, household cleaners and solvents, televisions and other electronic waste, and paints and stains. Compost bins and supplies, rain barrels, and rain barrel kits are also available for sale. Contact the Depot office at 574-935-8618 or visit their website at www.myrecycledepot.org.
