An explosion at U.S. Granules Corporation on Monday morning sent emergency responders to 1433 Western Avenue shortly after 8 a.m.
Plymouth Police were first to arrive on the scene and found one of the silos with fire and black smoke coming from it. U.S. Granules Corporation is the world's largest producer and recycler of aluminum foil granules.
By the time Plymouth Fire Department crews arrived, the fire was largely extinguished. Firefighters observed either part of the silo or an adjacent structure on the ground following the blast.
U.S. Granules staff had already shut off power to the affected area before the fire department's arrival. Company personnel worked with firefighters to ensure the rest of the property was safe.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation. Plymouth Fire Department remained on scene for about an hour to monitor the situation and check for any additional hazards.
