The Plymouth Fire Department responded to 830 Gibson Street, the Lincoln Junior High, for a fire alarm Tuesday at 5:59 p.m.
Assistant Fire Chief Chuy Garcia told GIANT fm WTCA that there was a small electrical fire in one of the electrical panels in the school. The fire was contained in the box and the utility room. He said it was a minor fire.
Plymouth School Superintendent Mitch Mawhorter said no one was in the building at the time of the fire. As for a cause, he said, “It is possible the surge protector overheated, starting the fire.”
Mawhorter went on to say, “Luckily, Ward (Buyers) was close by at our board meeting and was able to be on the scene quickly.”
The school corporation is thankful for the help from the fire department and noted that Michiana Contracting would be fixing the issue on Wednesday.
