Duke Energy presents energy efficiency investment check to Shelbyville Central Schools board

Members of the Shelbyville Central Schools board accepted an energy efficiency investment check from Duke Energy representative Wednesday night at the school system's administrative building

Duke Energy presented the Shelbyville Central Schools system with a check for $80,683.60 Wednesday at the corporation’s monthly school board meeting.

The award from Duke Energy is part of program that assists with upgrading to more efficient lighting.

“These programs are available for energy efficiency investments,” explained Duke Energy representative Tyler Crater. “As you convert old lighting to LED lighting there is energy savings there. We are able to help offset costs for those improvements through these incentive programs.”

In other school board business Wednesday, school lunch prices for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year were approved.

Lunch prices for students will increase by 20 cents.

The following are lunch prices for the next school year:

$2.70 for elementary students
$2.80 for middle school and high school students
$5 for adults

Shelbyville Central Schools will continue to operate under a universal breakfast where all students are free for the reimbursable breakfast.

Any additional breakfast meals purchased will be charged the following rates:

$1.50 for elementary students
$1.60 for middle school and high school students
$3 for adults

“We encourage all parents to complete the free and reduced application to qualify for free and reduced lunches because the meals from lunch are provided and paid,” said Michelle Babcock, business manager of Shelbyville Central Schools.
