Police officers from six agencies assisted in the execution of a search warrant in the 100 block of Hudson Street in LaPaz on Wednesday, May 29th.
The Marshall County Drug Task Force, assisted by Net43, LaPaz Police, Marshall County Police, Plymouth Police, and Indiana State Police, executed a search warrant in LaPaz Wednesday morning. During the operation, officers recovered evidence of suspected methamphetamine and methamphetamine use within the home, as well as a firearm.
A child was removed from the home by the Indiana Department of Child Services.
Officers arrested 38-year-old Kathleen Burkett and 53-year-old Michael Heims, both of LaPaz. They were booked into the Marshall County Jail with charges of possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, and neglect of a dependent.
Both Burkett and Heims are being held on $1,500 cash bonds.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
