Units of the Christy Fire Protection District were mobilized over the weekend to an incident of fire.
Saturday morning about 7:20 a.m., they were alerted by a call to a controlled burn of a rural local building that had gotten out of control and was spreading into a nearby field of standing corn. Two units were dispatched to the scene and were able to bring the blaze under control quickly. No damage was done to the surrounding property and there were no reported injuries.
Local fire officials remind Lawrence County and other area residents that the current dry conditions have increased the risk of outdoor fires getting out of control. Those who chose to burn outdoors are reminded to use extra caution and be mindful of the existing conditions.
