
The Shelbyville Plan Commission approved the site development plan for “Project Bobcat” Monday night at City Hall.
Anderson-Dubose Company intends to build a 183,000-plus square foot warehouse facility on Mausoleum Road in Shelbyville’s Industrial Park.
Vantrust Real Estate submitted the petition that included annexing three parcels of land into the city. The plan commission gave that petition a formal recommendation and it will next be heard by the Shelbyville Common Council at its next meeting on Aug. 4.
The four parcels of land total 56.73 acres along Mausoleum Road. The cold storage warehouse operated by Anderson-Dubose Company will supply restaurants, according to Brad Kendall of Vantrust Real Estate.
The site development plan includes a potential 50,000-square-foot expansion to the proposed warehouse. The site also has railroad access that will be utilized once the warehouse is operational.
The company, new to Shelby County, would bring approximately 100 jobs to the community. The company currently has distribution warehouses in Lordstown, Ohio, and Rochester, New York.
Neighboring residents of the proposed warehouse directed questions to the plan commission about utilities and road maintenance.
Tyler Comstock, City of Shelbyville engineer, explained the city is working with Vantrust Real Estate and American Structurepoint Inc. to improve Mausoleum Road to two 12-foot lanes.
The site development plan also has retention ponds and accounts for preserved wetlands in the area.
The final decision on utilities and road maintenance will come at a later date. Monday’s decision by the plan commission was only regarding annexation and the site development plan.
In other plan commission business Monday:
- Approved a site development plan for Distribution Properties LLC to construct a 50,000 square-foot warehouse at 861 Elston Drive. Lumbermen’s Warehouse has operated on site since 1989 and is in need of expansion on site.
