The Environmental Climate Justice Committee of the Greater Terre Haute NAACP Branch #3068 will present the second in a two-part program about the essential information on the proposed technology to capture carbon, compress it and pipe in underground to keep it out of the atmosphere.
The first presentation focused on the science of the elements and the process of capture, collecting information, what the community needs to know, and the concerns of the people who will be affected.
The second presentation will delve into the consequences of this operation and probe into risks of leakages and transportation issues, effects on the environment and the people living around the stored compressed carbon, the expenses surrounding this project and the chances of success in reducing the damage to the earth.
The panel of experts includes Pam Richart, Co-Director of Eco-Justice Collaborative, Susan Adams and Julie Fosdick, Landowners Impacted from Illinois and Kerwin Olson, Executive Director of Citizens Action Coalition of Indiana. Their contributions encompass ways to increase awareness of all aspects of this controversial project, ways to develop strategies and tactics to engage the political process, the legislative arena and the community with positive advocacy and effective activism.
The program will start at 6 p.m. on Aug. 18 in the Vigo County Public Library Room A (lower level). Virtual participants may connect with the Zoom Videoconference Link.
