The fire chiefs of Lawrence and Richland Counties in southeastern Illinois have implemented a Burn Ban effective until further notice due to continued extremely dry conditions and an increase in brush, field, and trash fires.
The prohibition includes, but is not limited to :
Field and agricultural burning
Brush and leaf pile burning
Trash and debris burning
Recreational/open burning
The current conditions are allowing fires to spread rapidly and unpredictably. Recent fires in both counties have placed an increased demand on local fire departments and created risks to homes, farms, crops, property and firefighters.
The ban will remain in effect until conditions improve and it is determined that outdoor burning can resume safely.
