Blue River Community Foundation (BRCF) announced that $214,632 has been awarded through the 2025 Progress Grant cycle, investing in projects and programs that will make a lasting difference for residents across Shelby County.

The Progress Grant program is funded by the City of Shelbyville and Shelby County Government tax income from the casino.  A portion of these funds has been dedicated to support charitable work across the county, with BRCF administering the program on behalf of both local governments.
This year’s Progress Grant cycle welcomed three new nonprofit applicants and reached every corner of Shelby County, including Shelbyville. Collectively, these projects reflect the many ways philanthropy strengthens a community through arts and culture, education, health, youth development, social services, and civic engagement.

“Each grant represents more than dollars; it represents hope, opportunity, and progress for Shelby County,” said Jordan England, BRCF Grants & Nonprofit Relations Director. “From a child’s first day at preschool to a mother finding safe housing, these stories show what is possible when our community comes together.”

2025 Progress Grant recipients:

Boys & Girls Clubs of Shelby County – $15,000
Funding will support Healthy Kids, Active Clubs, which includes Beam Floor Projection Exergame systems and other equipment that make learning active and fun. Hundreds of children and teens will benefit from programs that combine movement, teamwork, and academics in new and engaging ways.

Decatur County YMCA (serving Shelby County) – $20,000
More than just a gym, the YMCA is a place where working families find care and early education for their children. Scholarships for Early Learning programs ensure that more children in Shelby County will enter kindergarten prepared to thrive, while giving parents the security of knowing their children are safe and supported.

Forest Hill Cemetery Association – $22,088

Through equine-assisted therapy, Harnessing Hope helps people facing trauma and life challenges regain confidence and strength. This grant supports The Bridge by expanding opportunities for participants to heal in a supportive environment where horses provide a unique path to resilience.

Marietta Community – $23,834
Small towns thrive when neighbors have a place to gather. With this grant, Marietta will help develop a new community gathering space, including amenities that encourage recreation and a renewed sense of connection in this rural corner of Shelby County.

Servants at Work (SAWs) – $5,000
SAWs has already built many ramps in Shelby County, changing the lives of residents with mobility challenges. This grant will allow volunteers to continue constructing wheelchair ramps that restore independence and dignity, turning houses back into true homes.

Shelby County Players – $50,000
Local theatre enriches the entire community by giving people of all ages a chance to perform, design, and experience the arts. With this grant, the Players will install a new theatre technology and sound package, ensuring productions can meet professional standards and inspire future generations of performers.

Shelter from the Storm – $35,000
Every day, Shelter from the Storm sees the urgency of women and children seeking safety from domestic violence. This grant will expand safe housing, providing shelter, stability, and the tools families need to rebuild their lives after a crisis.
