Now named Bear Riley (after the golf course and the highway), he needs an almost $5,000 surgery to repair his dislocated hip.
Many people and neighbors around the Blue Bear Golf Club, Cracker Barrel, Speedway and Ashford Place on Shelbyville's north side saw this abandoned, black dog running on his own, no owner, trying to get food from trash cans for about three months. He was so fast no one could catch him and the neighborhood feared for his safety and some tried to leave food out in yards for him.
In September, the neighbors and golfers noticed he was limping badly. He mainly scavenged for food at night. Finally, a few weeks ago, Kalynn Crosby, who lives on State Rd. 9 across from the golf course, was able to trap him in her fenced in backyard with the help of a team of volunteers led by Zonda Weathford Stead. After several late nights of failed attempts to lure him and close the gate on him, he was caught.
There is a video of the capture on Zonda's Facebook page.
Now named Bear Riley (after the golf course and the highway), he needs an almost $5,000 surgery to repair his dislocated hip. Crosby has adopted him and he is happy to have a family at last. The dog came to her very skinny and flea infested, but is now thriving except for his hip.

If anyone would like to donate for Bear Riley's surgery, they can call the Brookville Road Animal Hospital in Indianapolis at 317-353-6143. They have an account set up in Bear's name and Owner Kalynn Crosby. Any donations will be greatly appreciated.
