Letter to the Editor: Citizen addresses Common Council on Morrison Park

I would like to address Mayor Scott Furgeson’s comments on the radio station WSVX concerning the Morrison Park/Boys and Girls Club issue.

His comment that it is not an issue, for now, leads me to believe the issue can or will be back in the future and that the transfer of management authority of Morrison Park to a non-government entity can still happen.

For this reason, I would like to recommend and make a request of your citizen elected council. I would like to request that your citizen elected council initiate, draft, support and vote on an ordinance requiring that any transfer of managing authority and total control of any of the 4 inner city parks to a non-government entity must first be voted on and passed by your council first, before a deal can be made.

My second request is for each of your council members in turn inform the public of their position on this issue and the ordinance that I have just proposed. I believe the citizens deserve to know where their elected council representatives stand on this issue.

Included with this request letter, please review a copy of the Mayor’s April 16 Letter of Intent, which explains his determination and commitment to make this deal with the Boys and Girls Club happen.

I look forward to your response on this issue and sharing it with the Shelbyville community!
