TW No Beach Secrets top qualifier for QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Derby

The winning trend continues for the partnership of owner Tom Wylie and trainer Natasha Perez.

TW No Beach Secrets timed the wire just right with Diego Villamil Bocanegra aboard to score the fastest time in the trials for the Quarter Horse Racing Association (QHRAI) Stallion Service Auction (SSA) Derby. The top 10 qualifiers advance to the six figure final set for Aug. 29 during Quarter Horse Stakes Day at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

Starting from post seven in the field of nine, TW No Beach Secrets broke well and was in contention early in the 400-yard sprint. Roses After Midnight and Giovani Vazquez-Gomez held their ground on the outside with Heza Hawkeye and Eduardo Diaz coming up to join the top two on the inside midway through the race.

As the wire neared, TW No Beach Secrets and Heza Hawkeye were in a big battle to get there first with TW No Beach Secrets getting the edge by a head in a time of 19.835 seconds. Heza Hawkeye, who turned in the second fastest time among 36 starters, was a neck ahead of Roses after Midnight, who was the third fastest qualifier on the day.

TW No Beach Secrets paid $17.40 for the win. The three-year-old son of Escondido Beach earned his first win of 2026 in his fourth start. Overall, he is four for 11 for Wylie, who bred and raised the gelding from brood mare No Secrets Hereither, who is a full sister to the great No Secrets Here, winner of the 2006 All American Futurity and now a successful sire. Perez, a former jockey, handles the training duties for the sophomore and joined Tom and Tammy Wylie in the winner’s circle aboard her pony Marshmallow following the win.

The second fastest trial of four was won by Sydney Jack (photo) from the Tim Eggleston barn. Ridden by Rolando Pina, the filly kicked off the day with a win in a time of 20.001 to rank in fourth place heading to the final. Victory Beach and Eduardo Diaz made it an Eggleston double followed by Beach Burner and Fernando Morin for third.

Horses from the Eggleston barn won three of the four trials for the QHRAI SSA Derby with A Flare for Politics, ridden by Fernando Morin, and Rock N The Beach, ridden by Rolando Pina, rounding out the winners for the trials.

A Flare for Politics won the Restricted Grade 3 QHRAI SSA Futurity last season and will look to add the QHRAI SSA Derby to his credentials this year. Rock N The Beach won the other Restricted Grade 3 race at Horseshoe Indianapolis, capping off his freshman year with a win in the Miss Roxie Little Futurity. Both horses are represented as Graded Stakes winners on the jockey statue silks on the outside of the winner’s circle.

The field headed to the QHRAI SSA Final, in order of time with jockey, includes: TW No Beach Secrets (19.835, Diego Villamil Bocanegra); Heza Hawkeye (19.854, Eduardo Diaz); Roses After Midnight (19.918, Giovani Vazquez-Gomez); Sydney Jack (20.001, Rolando Pina); Victory Beach (20.023, Eduardo Diaz); Beach Burner (20.030, Fernando Morin); A Flare for Politics (20.057, Fernando Morin); Seven Beaches (20.064, L. Daniel Martinez); Rock N The Beach (20.090, Rolando Pina); and Remember Da Queen (20.129, Rolando Pina).

Eggleston will saddle six for the final (Heza Hawkeye, Sydney Jack, Victory Beach, A Flare for Politics, Rock N The Beach, Remember Da Queen).

The QHRAI SSA Derby will be joined by four other stakes on Quarter Horse Stakes Day, including the final of the Restricted Grade 3 QHRAI SSA Futurity. The late morning start of the program will feature purses in excess of $700,000 and will be supported by a guest appearance from Martha Claussen, nationally known Quarter Horse racing analyst.

Other stakes on the day include the Bob Woodard Memorial Classic and the QHRAI SSA Juvenile Stakes and the QHRAI SSA Invitational Stakes.

First post is set for 10:45 a.m. Aug. 29 at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
