Super Shakerr scores win in $195,200 Gordon Mobley Futurity

Fresh off the win from his older sister, CV Denali, in the afternoon’s Blue River Derby, Super Shakerr and Edgar Diaz scored their first stakes win in the 17^th running of the Gordon Mobley Futurity to conclude the third all-Quarter Horse racing day of 2026 at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

The win was significant, as it is the fourth foal from the mare Botticelli Shake to win the Mobley Futurity Final with Super Shakerr joining CV Denali, Botticelli Beach, and Shakeitonthebeach. Claudio Barraza has trained all by the first from the mare.

“I am grateful for the opportunity and the trust from them (Campos Family Ventures) because we bought both (CV) Denali and this horse (Super Shakerr) as weanlings,” noted Barraza. “They both have turned out really good for us.”

Super Shakerr won his trial, but his time was second to his stablemate Jazz Solo, who led the field into the gate as the fastest trial winner in 17.903. Both Barraza trained horses drew opposite ends of the gate with Super Shakerr beginning from post one and Jazz Solo beginning from post 10.

Out of the gate, there was some bumping with the horses to the outside of Super Shakerr, but he avoided any contact and was off to a great start for jockey Edgar Diaz. On the outside, Jazz Solo didn’t have as good of luck coming out of the gate for Fernando Morin, so he had some ground to make up in the 350 yard dash.

Smokindownthebeach and Eduardo Diaz posed an early threat from the center of the track along with Edsons Wagon and Cristian Penaloza from the outside. As the field neared the wire, Super Shakerr got the edge over the ones who had been in contention during the sprint as Jazz Solo came flying on the outside.

Super Shakerr was a clear cut winner by three-quarters of a length in 17.774 seconds, a new stakes record, besting his older sister’s (CV Denali) stakes record time set last year in 17.790. Jazz Solo was a nose better than Edsons Wagon at the wire for second.

Super Shakerr paid $8.60 for the win. He was joined by Jazz Solo in the enlarged winner’s circle gathering for the victory celebration and the photo. The chestnut son of Escondido Beach is now two for three in his young career and boosted his career bankroll to more than $125,000. Sheri Miller bred and raised the gelding until he was purchased by Campos Family Ventures, who have a farm near Connersville, Ind.

“I knew the 10 horse (Jazz Solo) was a late closer, but he didn’t get the best of breaks,” noted Barraza. “The one (Super Shakerr) had a better break. With these younger horses, I am kind of patient and don’t expect much. I don’t find out until their first start if they are going to be good or not. But this colt (Super Shakerr) showed some talent when we were breaking him, so it’s not a total surprise for me.”

It was the fourth win in the Mobley Futurity for Barraza. He also conditioned Botticelli Beach (2021), Zoomin Feature (2024) and CV Denali (2025) to wins in the event.
