Former Rochester student and basketball player Garrett Winegar is on the watchlist for the Naismith high school boys basketball Coach of the Year.
Winegar is the head coach at top-ranked 4A undefeated Fishers. The Tigers are 23-0 despite playing most of the season without Jason Gardner. Due to injury, Gardner has played in just five games this season. Indiana, Arizona, Auburn, Cincinnati and Florida have been mentioned in the running for Gardner.
Fishers was 30-1 last season. The only loss came in the 4A state championship in a 67-66 overtime upset by Jeffersonville.
Fishers won the 2024 4A state title with a 29-1 record.
Winegar is 131-24 in six seasons at Fishers. His first season as a head coach resulted in an 18-6 record at Warren Central.
In, Winegar was one of three 2025 Bob King Coaches of the Year chosen by their peers in the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. Winegar is a 2010 graduate of Rochester High School. He played four seasons of basketball and was a part of the Zebras’ Class 3A state runner-up finish in 2009.
