Shelbyville’s Shia Veach finished runner-up Friday in the Nike Twilight (XC Town) Meet at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute.
Veach stayed with the top three the entire race and crossed the finish line in a new personal best time of 15 minutes, 54 seconds. He is now within 18 seconds of the school record set in 2003 by Sean Hudson.
Also scoring team points for Shelbyville were Eden Ortega (18:12), Kendryk Pike (18:22), Anderson Mollenkopf (18:59), and Eli Davis (20:31).
Of the 14 Golden Bears that competed, 10 produced new personal records.
The Golden Bears finished 20th in the 42-team field that sent 385 runners to the starting line.
New Palestine’s Mike Bauer won the boys race in 15:51.
In the girls race, Shelbyville placed 14th out of 29 teams and had seven girls post times below 25:00 for the first time since 2018.
America Leon led the Golden Bears with a 27th place finish in 20:29. Also scoring points for Shelbyville were Macey Robbins (20:39), Harper Kinsey (22:22), Kat Seal (23:45) and Anne Marie Fansler (24:03).
Seven of the nine Shelbyville runners notched personal best times.

Waldron def. Switzerland County, 25-16, 25-13, 25-20
At Waldron, Maleah Williams finished with 11 kills, two service aces and nine digs to propel the Mohawks to a sweep of the Pacers (6-15).
Ashlyn Ramsey and Remi Hewson combined for 13 aces. Ramsey also had eight digs and five assists to go with eight aces.
Abby Crouch added six digs and 18 assists to push Waldron’s record to 13-15 this season.
