Prep Report: Shelbyville tennis collects first Hoosier Legends Conference win

Shelbyville tennis secured its first Hoosier Legends Conference victory Saturday in Lizton.

The Golden Bears defeated Tri-West, 3-2. Shelbyville swept the doubles matches and added a strong performance from Bram Kolkmeier at No. 2 singles.

Kolkmeier defeated Wyatt McMillan, 6-1, 6-1 to improve to 5-1 this season.

At No. 1 doubles, Jack Van Wye and Cooper Reed bested Michael Gibson and Kyle Dean, 6-2, 6-1.

Owen Shively and Grant Tackett improved to 4-2 at No. 2 doubles this season with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Landry Slangle and Colton Losh.

At No. 1 singles, Eric Dean needed three sets to get by Shelbyville’s Kashton Laycock, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Connor Smith also needed three sets to top Shelbyville’s Mason Miano at No. 3 singles, 4-6, 7-5, 10-7.

Cross country

Doug Drenth Invitational

At Franklin, Shelbyville’s Shia Veach placed fourth overall out of 96 runners with a personal-best time of 16:00.

Completing the Shelbyville scoring were Eden Ortega (18:17), Anderson Mollenkopf (19:27), Kendryk Pike (19:30) and Tanner Jones (21:32).

The Golden Bears placed 10th in the team standings.

Shelbyville had a pair of top-20 finishers in the girls event.

America Leon placed 15th in 20:44 with Macey Robbins two spots back at 17th in 20:59. Also competing for the Golden Bears were Paige O’Connor (24:38), Harker Kinsey (25:32) and Anne Marie Fansler (26:18).

Shelbyville placed eighth in the team standings.

Rushville Classic

Triton Central’s Audrey Morris placed 33rd in the girls race in 25:12. Lillian Siegel finished 68th in 37:33.

Competing for Triton Central in the boys race were Jason P’Pool (23:33), Hudson Watson (23:57), Braydyn Hart (26:17) and Luke Starost (28:06).

Boys soccer

Shelbyville Invitational

Batesville 1, Shelbyville 0

Mooresville 3, Shelbyville 2

A second-half goal proved enough for Batesville to defeat the Golden Bears in the event opener.

The shutout loss was the first of the season for the Golden Bears.

Mooresville then defeated Batesville, 11-1, in the second match of the day.

The Pioneers closed out the invitational with a win over the Golden Bears to improve to 4-1-1.

Shelbyville dropped to 2-4 this season.

Trinity Lutheran 3, Triton Central 2

At Trinity Lutheran, Rusty Harris had two goals and Noah Lawrence had a goal and an assist to seal the win.

Triton Central dropped to 1-4-1 this season.

Girls soccer

Tri-West 5, Shelbyville 1

At Tri-West, Jordan Peters (three goals) and Kaydence Steffey (two goals) pushed the Bruins to the Hoosier Legends Conference victory.

Tri-West improved to 3-1 (2-0 HLC).

Shelbyville dropped to 2-2 (1-1 HLC).

Volleyball

Tri-West def. Shelbyville, 25-12, 25-10, 25-17

At Tri-West, Caroline Ward had 18 kills and 11 digs to lead the Bruins to the HLC victory.

Annabelle Bringle, Lillian Jenkins and Lyla Wilson each had three kills for Shelbyville (4-2, 1-1 HLC).

Waldron def. Crothersville, 25-13, 25-21, 25-22

At Waldron, Ashlyn Ramsey had a career-high 15 kills and had 15 digs to lead the victorious Mohawks.

Riley Thurston delivered six service aces.

Waldron improved to 3-4.
