Prep Report: Shelbyville eliminates Triton Central from tennis sectional

Shelbyville’s No. 1 doubles team of Jack Van Wye and Cooper Reed rallied to win a first set tiebreaker and get the Golden Bears the advantage in its sectional opener Tuesday against Triton Central.

Van Wye and Reed went on to defeat Cash Eck and Graham Gast, 7-6 (3), 6-3 which helped Shelbyville secure a 3-2 victory over the Tigers.

Shelbyville’s No. 2 doubles pairing of Owen Shively and Grant Tackett produced a 6-2, 6-1 win over Colton Ayres and Brylon Scott.

And Bram Kolkmeier secured his 20^th win of the season at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Bradyn Robinson.

At No. 3 singles, Triton Central’s Drayton Kermode defeated Kody Sellers, 7-6 (5), 6-2.

And Brayden Hoover kept his senior season going with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kashton Laycock at No. 1 singles. Hoover will advance into the IHSAA State Singles Tournament next week at Center Grove High School.

With the win, Shelbyville advances to today’s sectional semifinal round on its home courts. The Golden Bears (17-5) will face Waldron (13-3) in one semifinal match. Morristown will take on Southwestern in the other semifinal.

The sectional championship match is scheduled for Thursday at 5 p.m.

Boys soccer

Southwestern 10, Henryville 1

At Southwestern, the Class A, No. 15 Spartans scored five goals in each half to close out its regular season schedule with a win.

Landon Drake scored three goals and Matthew Sipes and Ethan Sipes each had two to improve the Spartans to 10-4-2.

Also scoring goals were Jay Utley, Aiden Mitchell and Bruce O’Brien.

Chandler Holt had three saves in goal.

Henryville dropped to 1-11.

Morristown 1, Knightstown 0

At Knightstown, Mitchell Ronan’s goal was enough for the Yellow Jackets to secure the shutout victory.

Goalkeeper Landen Rinzel was credited with 20 saves.

Morristown improved to 6-6-3. Knightstown dropped to 2-10-2.

Seymour 7, Shelbyville 0

At Seymour, the host Owls used five second-half goals to pull away from the Golden Bears.

Bartolome Sebastian had a hat trick for Seymour (6-6-2). Diego Felipe scored twice and Braylon Ford and Tate Unterseher had goals in the win.

Shelbyville fell to 5-9-1.

Girls soccer

Triton Central 7, University 1

At University, Rylee Pruitt had a hat trick to improve the Tigers to 8-7.

Also scoring for Triton Central were Layla McKee, Sarah Salazar-Montenegro, Aubrey Sutton and Layla Compton.

The loss dropped University to 5-4-1 this season.

Volleyball

Greenwood Christian def. Waldron, 25-9, 25-5, 25-13

At Greenwood Christian, Addison Sholtey led the Cougars with 15 kills and had one of 13 service aces in the win.

Three different Cougars (17-6) had double digit totals in digs and freshman Stella Reed finished with 29 assists.

Waldron dropped to 12-14.
