Prep Report: King leads Class 2A, No. 8 Tigers to overtime win at New Palestine

Class 2A, No. 8 Triton Central needed an extra four minutes Tuesday to earn its eighth-straight win.

Quinn King followed up her Shelby County Tournament Most Valuable Player performance from the weekend with a 21-point effort at New Palestine that resulted in a 58-57 victory in overtime.

The junior made six free throws in the extra session and Triton Central made 17 of 20 free throws in the game to hold off the Dragons.

Triton Central (13-3) led 30-28 at halftime and 37-33 after three quarters.

Brooklyn Crim and Sadey Hughbanks combined to make 5 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter to help get the game to overtime.

Kendra Moore hit a three-pointer and a pair of free throws in overtime but it was not enough to keep New Palestine from falling to 12-5.

Hughbanks led the Dragons with 17 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. Crim finished with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists. Moore made three 3s and finished with 13 points.

For Triton Central, Kate Collier had 11 points. Maryrose Felling finished with 10 and Lexi Eubanks added nine points.

New Palestine won the junior varsity game, 42-31. Brylie Kirstein led the Dragons with 12 points.

Anna Kemper and Laiyla McLane each had six points for Triton Central.

Triton Central hosts Northwest Home School Thursday and is at Indian Creek (8-11) Saturday.

Shelbyville 44, Rushville 34

At Garrett Gymnasium in Shelbyville, the host Golden Bears used a perfect performance from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to secure their fifth-straight victory.

Four different Shelbyville players combined to make all 10 of their free throw attempts over the final eight minutes to complete a come-from-behind win over the Lions, a potential sectional opponent.

Jayla Ash led Shelbyville (10-7) with 11 points. Maddy Jones finished with 10 points. Hannah Baker added nine and Savannah Collins had eight.

Shelbyville led 22-17 at halftime but trailed 30-27 after three quarters.

Kelsey Morgan led Rushville (2-17) with eight points.

Shelbyville is at Mt. Vernon (9-7) Saturday afternoon.

 

 

Waldron 49, Blue River Valley 41

At Blue River Valley, the visiting Mohawks used a fast start to pull away from the Vikings and secure the win.

Waldron led 19-9 after one quarter and 26-20 at halftime. Five different Mohawks scored in the third quarter to extend the lead to eight.

Abby Crouch hit a 3 and Waldron made 4 of 6 free throws in the fourth quarter to improve to 6-8 this season.

Brooklyn Milbourn scored a game-high 14 points. Emerson Lindsey hit a pair of 3s and finished with 12 points. Crouch added 10.

Daisy Souther led the Vikings (1-15) with 13 points. Sydney Crisp had 11.

Waldron hosts South Decatur (7-11) Thursday.

 

 

North Decatur 38, Morristown 21

At Morristown, the visiting Chargers moved one step closer to securing the Mid-Hoosier Conference championship.

North Decatur (7-11, 4-0 MHC) led 15-11 at halftime then outscored the Yellow Jackets, 16-5, in the third quarter to take a 31-16 lead into the final quarter.

The Chargers have won three straight and host Southwestern (2-15, 0-4 MHC) Thursday.

Morristown dropped to 8-9 (2-3 MHC) and hosts Indianapolis Lutheran (6-10) Thursday.
