Prep Report: Eastern Hancock tops Triton Central for Sectional 43 championship

Eastern Hancock scored twice in the fifth inning to break a 1-all tie and held off the Tigers, 4-1, for the Class 2A, Sectional 43 championship Friday.

Addisyn Trackwell, Adalyn Willis and Hannah Wittgren each had two hits for Eastern Hancock (18-6). Trackwell and Willis scored all four runs.

Alivia Willis went the distance in the circle, allowing seven hits and five walks while striking out four.

Madi Peterson took the loss for Triton Central (15-8). She allowed eight hits and all four runs, only two were earned.

Elly May drove in Ashlyn Hittle with the Tigers’ only run.

Eastern Hancock will travel to Northeastern (16-3) Tuesday for a regional championship game.

Triton Central Sectional

Indianapolis Lutheran 4, Triton Central 3

The Saints scored four runs in the second inning Friday and made that hold up in the sectional opener for both teams.

Jackson Baskett drove in two runs in the inning. Hudson Mills had two doubles and drove in a run. Caleb Courtot also had two hits.

Lutheran (13-11-1) used three pitchers to get the win. Kolson Conner worked five innings, allowed five hits and two walks while striking out three to earn the win. Carter Dougherty and Mills combined to pitch two scoreless innings of relief.

Janssen Capps went the distance for Triton Central (8-17). He allowed four hits and three walks while striking out four.

Triton Central scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning on a Brayden Hoover three-run home run.

Morristown Sectional

Waldron 8, Morristown 6

Morristown’s offense caught fire too late to overcome an 8-1 deficit. The Yellow Jackets scored five runs in the top of the seventh but fell short in the sectional opener Friday.

Jackson Kuhn allowed a hit before securing the final out for the Mohawks to advance. Hunter Dodson earned the win, pitching 6.2 innings, allowing eight hits and six runs (one earned).

Dodson (three RBIs), Kuhn (2) and Brayden Smith (2) combined to drive in seven runs. Kuhn led the Mohawks with three hits.

Morristown finished 8-12.

North Decatur 12, Waldron 2

The Chargers scored six runs in the first inning Saturday in the sectional semifinals and cruised to the win.

Henry Kinkier and Eli Trenkamp combined to drive in seven runs for North Decatur (14-8).

Matthew Fields, Trenkamp and Kinker combined to limit the Mohawks to one hit while striking out 11.

Kuhn took the loss for Waldron.

Boys golf

Providence Invitational

Shelbyville finished 11th at the invitational won by Center Grove.

Logan Tobian led the Golden Bears with a 78. Logan Reinhart followed at 84. Ethan Hughes (90) and Kam Holland (95) rounded out Shelbyville's top four finishers.

Shelbyville hosts the Golden Bear Invitational Wednesday.
