Plymouth loses lead, gets it back and takes road win at Fairfield

Plymouth scored in every inning but the second to hold off Fairfield 8-6 in Friday night baseball.

The Pilgrims (2-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and increased the lead to 3-0 in the third. Fairfield (1-1) responded with its first tally in the third and took its only lead at 5-4 with a four run fourth inning. But Plymouth recaptured the lead with two in the fifth and held on with single runs in the sixth and seventh to post the win.

Nick Manzuk was one of three Pilgrims with two hits on the day. He also drove in a run and score once. On the hill, Manzuk went three and a third and surrendered four runs though only two were earned.

Dominick Vasquez came on in relief to get the win. He pitched two and two-thirds and gave up two runs on three hits. Landon Tyler pitched a scoreless inning to record the save.

Also for Plymouth, Ben Shiveley was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Shiveley is hitting a team-leading .538 on the young season.

Batting DH Drake Feece was 2-for-2 with two RBI. Parker Wolfe, Christian Cruz Mahler and Grayson Terrone also drove in runs for Plymouth.
